Tuesday, March 7, 7:30pm

Hailed as “mightily impressive” by The Washington Post, the celebrated violinist Benjamin Beilman joins the Festival Orchestra to perform Mendelssohn’s richly melodic Violin Concerto. Maestro Robert Moody begins with John Williams’s dynamic musical suite Adventures on Earth (from E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial). The concert concludes with a piece that, while composed in 1872, holds timely relevance for today, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2. A strikingly joyful work, the music was inspired by the rich tradition of Ukrainian folk songs and dance melodies.
