Join us for our bi-monthly music-listening book club!
In celebration of the Festival Orchestra’s performance of Stravinsky’s The Firebird, we’ll enjoy a playlist of orchestral pieces based on fairytales. While many of us may not be familiar with the story of the Firebird, tales as beloved as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty have inspired composers of ballet, chamber music, and opera.
As you listen to the playlist, listen for any similarities you find – are there common instruments that stand out? Are there specific musical moments that seem to point to the “magical” elements of the fairy tales? We’ll discuss those, as well as share our favorites from the list, when we gather to discuss on October 12!
