Ray Charles, the Father of Soul, cultivated his new sound out of an amalgam of Blues, Jazz, and Gospel Music. In this lecture, we’ll overview those influences up to the Golden Age of Gospel in the 1940s, survey some of Ray’s early borrowings from Gospel (and Gospel Music borrowing from him), and place all of that in a broader historical context. Join us and enjoy these incredible tunes
