Discourse on Doo-wop

What exactly is “doo-wop”? Where did it come from? How does it fit into the history of rock n’ roll and pop music?

In celebration of Musicfest’s upcoming Doo Wop Project performance, we look specifically at the history and evolution of the so-called Doo-wop genre. Join us as we travel back to the African American urban communities in the 1940’s, as this new music spreads across the music industry to Baltimore, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, New York, Los Angeles and even Jamaica. We’ll explore old favorites, and possibly discover new artists as well!
