Access to Artistry provides a unique opportunity for music students to learn from nationally and internationally acclaimed artists. These sessions are open masterclasses, designed primarily as educational experiences for the participating students rather than as performances or concerts. Audience members are invited to observe the teaching and learning process, offering a unique perspective on the artistic, technical, and interpretive work that takes place between artist and student. Students selected to participate are drawn from our annual competition programs.
This year’s Voice Masterclass will be taught by Christine Renee Graham, Associate Professor of Practice at Northern Arizona University.

Christine Renee Graham
Christine Graham is a native of Tucson, Arizona and attained Vocal Performance degrees from Northern Arizona University (BM) and the University of Washington (MM). She began her operatic career in the Opera Studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Germany, and went on to perform in Nordhausen, Coburg, Münster and Hannover, among others. Her reputation as a coloratura soprano and modern music specialist led to her debut at the Oper Frankfurt in Helmut Lachenmann’s avant-garde opera Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern (The Little Match Girl) in 2015, as well as her portrayal of Anne Trulove in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress in Würzburg (2014), and Sierva Maria in Peter Eötvös’ Love and Other Demons in Bremerhaven (2013). She was awarded the title of ‘Best Up and Coming Singer’ from Deutschland Radio for her performance of Peter Maxwell Davies’ monodrama Miss Donnithorne’s Maggot. She has also embodied more traditional coloratura roles such as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, Gilda in Rigoletto, and the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte. Graham was a semi-finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions in New York City, and the National Mozart Competition in Liverpool, England. She has appeared in numerous concerts in Europe and the USA, including Mozart’s C-minor Mass in Mallorca, Spain, Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Flagstaff Symphony, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Darmstadt, Germany, prior to returning to NAU to join the voice faculty in 2016. www.christine-graham.com
