2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Our Musical Theatre Matinee series features guest lectures from some of the Valley’s foremost experts in musical theatre, and include live performances by outstanding local singers and dancers!
Want to go behind-the-scenes and get a glimpse into how a musical or opera comes to life on stage? At the heart of any theatrical performance is the guiding hand of a director, a unique professional who takes charge of the production process and shapes almost every aspect of the show.
Mark Stoddard, an award-winning valley theater director and actor (and Stage Director for Carousel in concert – April 26 & 27), will lead the audience through the creative process of a theater director. Learn about script/story interpretation, auditions, casting, leading rehearsals, collaborating with designers and working with actors to create memorable characters.
This unique, interactive presentation will feature some wonderfully talented theater artists as Mark guides them on their character choices, staging moments and script interpretation – then they will present some dynamic comedic and dramatic performances of songs from a variety of classic and contemporary Broadway shows. And the audience will have opportunities to join the fun! Be ready to offer suggestions to actors, ‘sit in the director’s chair’, or join an impromptu audition scene. It will be a time of fun, insight into the directing process and great music – that will give you a new appreciation of what goes into getting the show ready for opening night!
Featuring upcoming young theater talents, Luke Chester and Gianna Arrighi – and valley theater veteran and Broadway actress Kelli James.
This event is generously sponsored by Bob and Charlotte Otto.
