The Salt River Five brass quintet is a premier chamber ensemble performing throughout the Phoenix metro area, including at events for the City of Mesa, the City of Tempe and the Desert Botanical Garden, as well as at private functions.
The quintet strives to engage more people in life-long learning and enjoyment through brass quintet music, and features works ranging from classical music to jazz standards and holiday favorites.

Josef Burgstaller
Joe Burgstaller, trumpet (February & March), is a former long-time member, featured trumpeter, and arranger with the Canadian Brass. He tours internationally as a soloist, most recently in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Taipei, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Winnipeg, Hamburg, Bologna, and U.S. Virgin Islands. Joe is also a chamber musician, crossover artist, guest orchestral musician, and master class clinician (more than 129 universities and conservatories), including his groundbreaking seminars for all instruments called Change Your Mind, Change Your Playing®. An Associate Professor at Arizona State University, he also live-broadcasts a weekly Trumpet Warmup Show that combines warmup, routine, fundamentals, and pedagogy to an audience in more than thirty countries. His discography includes hit classical solo CDs (License to Thrill and The Virtuoso Trumpet) and multiple Top 10 Billboard hits with the Canadian Brass. His crossover CDs (Bach’s Secret Files and Mozart’s Blue Dreams) were Top 50 on JazzRadio charts. A Yamaha Performing Artist, this is his second year at Arizona Musicfest.

Brandon Dicks
Brandon Dicks is a Trumpeter, Composer, and Teacher, in the Tempe, Arizona region. Brandon Dicks has many job titles including Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at Northern Arizona University, the Co-Director of the Trumpeter’s Multi-Track Competition and Seminar, and Program Director of Rhode Island Recording Ensemble. Alongside his career as a musician and manager, he also runs his own YouTube channel called BDicksmusic which has over 1K subscribers and over 100K channel views.
Brandon is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Trumpet Performance at Arizona State University while being a former Teaching Assistant to Joe Burgstaller. Brandon received his Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance and Music Composition at the University of Hartford where he studied with trumpeter Phil Snedecor and composition with Robert Carl, David Macbride, and Gilda Lyons. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Columbus State University where he studied with Robert Murray.
