Part 3: The Equipment: A Live Demonstration

With the help of collector Gary Stone, we will hear a variety of vintage recordings on original Phonographs, Radios, Victrolas. We will examine the difference between Edison’s approach and Berliner’s—why is the disc superior to the wax cylinder? Some of the other major developments include the rise of radio, and the development of the network, and how these developments changed the sonic landscape of the early 20th Century.
