60s Girl Soul Groups

Join us for our bi-monthly music-listening book club!

For our final summer playlist, we’ll celebrate the birthday of the prodigiously gifted Amy Winehouse with a playlist of the musicians that inspired her look and music! While gone too soon, Amy Winehouse’s impactful career drew deeply from the Girl Soul Groups of the 60s, such as Ronettes front-woman Ronnie Spector. Our playlist features tunes from groups including The Supremes, Martha & the Vandellas, The Cookies, The Marvelettes, and more!

We’ll review and discuss the playlist on 9/14 and reminisce on all the wonderful songs and performances of these groups, discuss favorites from different groups, share alternative versions of songs, and consider what it was about this era and genre that has made these tunes so timeless, even influencing a more contemporary musician like Winehouse.
