Joey Chang, piano
Program Prokofiev: Sonata No. 5 in C Major, I Allegro Tranquillo, II Andantino Ravel: Miroirs Suite – III Une Barque sur L’Ocean
Joey is 13 years old and is a 9th grader at Peggy Payne Academy in Tempe. He began studying piano at age 5 with Tehling Chiang and is now a pupil of Robert Hamilton. He gave his first formal recital at age 10, presenting a program that included live improvisations. He recently earned the top honor in the 2009 Jacob Flier International Piano Competition in New York and was a Division I finalist in 2009 Arizona Musicfest Young Musicians Competition. Joey is also a composer and enjoys soccer, swimming, science and Sponge Bob.
Andrew Boyle, piano
Program Chopin: Scherzo No. 2
Andrew is a sophomore at Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale. He also plays the tenor saxophone in their award winning marching band. He has been playing the piano since age 7 and currently takes lessons from Anna Chepikova. Andrew was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2009 Arizona Musicfest Young Musicians Competition.
Emily Mitchell, piano
Program Beethoven: Sonata Pathetique, III Movement Chopin: Sonata Op 35, I Grave
Emily is 17 and a senior in the International Baccalaureate Program at Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale. She is a piano student of Karen Maison and has played over 10 years. She received 3rd place in the Senior Division of the 2008 Fountain Hills Piano Competition and Honorable Mention in the 2009 Arizona Musicfest Young Musicians Competition. Emily is a member of the National Honor Society and her interests and activities include music and volunteering.
